Sugar n' Spiced Nuts

Fall is here, it's undeniable. Leaves have forfeited their summer homes in the trees and are now forming a thick carpet on the ground. Snow flurries have been floating in the air, whispering promises of winter. In preparation for the fast approaching holidays here is a recipe for a light and delicious appetizer for when company comes or a snack for the family to munch on during those cozy days inside.
These yummy nuts are fast, fun, and easy to make. The aroma that fills the house while they are cooking in the crock pot is undeniable. I dare you not to sneak one or two... or ten!!!

Ingredients:

1.5 C. Sugar
1.5 C. Brown Sugar
3 Tblsp Cinnamon
1 Tblsp. Ground Cloves
1 Tsp Salt
2 Egg Whites
3 Tsp. Vanilla
4 C. of nuts of your choice - I use an almond and pecan mixture
1/4 C. Water

Step One:

Mix sugars, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a large bowl. Make sure they are thoroughly blended together.

Step Two:

Whisk egg whites and vanilla in a separate bowl until frothy. Add nuts and stir until all nuts are thoroughly coated in egg white mixture.

Step Three:

Pout coated nuts into the sugar mix. Stir until nuts are all coated with sugar mix.

Step Four:

Grease your crock pot (I use a liner) and pour entire mixture into crock pot. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours. Make sure to stir mixture every 30 minutes. One hour prior to removing the nuts from the crock pot add 1/4 cup of water.

 Step Five:

Once nuts are thoroughly warmed in the crock pot, line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Pour mixture onto lined cookie sheet and spread the nuts out evenly to cool.

Step Six:

Once the mixture is cooled and relatively hardened feel free to serve to guests (they are best while still a little warm) or store in an airtight container. Enjoy!!!
